Happy New Year

The holiday vacation, really didn't clear up anything as far as the 'power rankings' are concern for our Southwest Washington teams. Congratulations to the Battle Ground Tiger's for winning their own holiday tournament, and the Prairie Falcon's who went to Wyoming to win the tournament there. They will remain our top two teams in the rankings. Skyview and Evergreen both, went 2-2 in the Nike - Lake Oswego tournament. And Camas went 2-1 over the holiday. Mountain View is rising up the latter very fast, and Woodland is playing well, but for now, we'll leave the top five alone until next week.

Top 5 teams in SW Washington - Poll

Well honestly I feel the poll got it right, at least close to right. Considering all the teams in the area, they narrowed it down to the consensus best 5, even if I disagree with the final order.

Skyview and Battle Ground per the voters were 1 & 1A, Prairie was number 3 with Camas 4 and Evergreen 5.

NOW... let me release my power rankings after the first 3 weeks of play. This is not based on the potential of a team or the lack of potential, but based on the results thus far for the teams play.

Clearly the #1 team is Prairie, averaging over 70 points a game, and playing that great pressure defense. Defeating Skyview another team in the top 5, convincingly.

Number 2 is Battle Ground. Starting off the season 6-0, winning their first 2 league games, after only winning 2 league games all of last year, and preparing to host their winter tournament.

I will give the 3 spot to Skyview because they have beaten a team in the top 5 Camas, and their only lost was to #1 Prairie. Our prayers go out to Maddie Van Liew, looks like she'll be out for the season for the Storm.

Number 4 Evergreen. Yet to play with the full roster but coming around.

Number 5 Camas, also hit with the injury bug to Katelyn (Mo) Henson, out for the season, but their only lost came to Skyview in the season opener.

The 2nd week of the season is in the books

Here we go, check the standings on the left. A few surprises but things look pretty much the way we expected. Prairie appears to be the top team in the area, thus far. Skyview and Evergreen are suffering through pre-season set backs with players out of the line up. Mattie Van Liew of Skyview might be down for the season, at least for a little while. Our prayers go out to her, and we hope for the best. Shamerica Scott is yet to play a minute for Evergreen, recovering from shoulder surgery. And Justine Joudrey - Evergreen went down with a knee injury and will sit out games.

Battle Ground is playing well, standing on top of the 4A, and they should be a factor all season long. Mountain View and Kelso have gotten off to good starts in the 3A. Woodland, Washougal, RA Long and Hockinson are looking competitive in the 2A.

Next week we will give you a Top Five power rating of South West Washington. Your input would be helpful. I hope to hear from you.

Openning week is in the books

Unlike last season where the 3A might have been the tougher conference, this year clearly the 4A will be the strongest conference here in SW Washington. In the pre-season many 4A schools play the local 3A schools preparing for the league games. 4A is dominating, at least thus far. The closest game, 'Skyview vs Camas' was still a 4A victory in the opening game for both teams. Prairie "the big dog in 3A" didn't play last week and will open tonight against Skyview.
