GSHL 3A All Impact Players Team

The "unofficial voting" of the impact players for the GSHL 3A was an amazing success. The intent was to give the talented basketball players in our area some exposure and a "pat on the back" for a job well done this season. Obviously some players receive more votes than others. (some have more ambitions parents and or friends){haha}. But all in all it went great. We ended with a top seven, as 3 girls tied for 5th. Janae Davis of Union receive the most votes 70%, followed by Lindsey Levanen 55% and Heather Corral 53% both from Prairie, Allie Holterman from Columbia River received 40% of the votes and Megan Dire - Union, Melissa Williams - Camas, and Christine Sooner - Prairie got 38% of the votes respectively. I felt all the girls, these 7 and the other 5 deserve a large {that a boy}. Now we move to the GSHL 4A.

HOCKINSON IS GOING TO STATE

Daron Dean, Lejla Mlivic, Amanda McCarty, Michelle Haagen, Jennifer Pickup and the rest of the Hawks are going to the 2A State Tournament after a decisive victory over Ridgefield 60 - 48. Congratulations to Hockinson coach Natalie Priebe on a great season. She really had this team playing well all season. Good luck at state and we'll be cheering for ya.

Prairie takes 3rd in the 3A Bi-Districts
The Falcon's jump out to a 12 point lead in the 1st quarter and hung on to defeat Yelm 55 - 48 to place them with a high seed in the upcoming 3A State Tournament. Lauren Goecke lead Prairie with 20 points, Christine Sonners dropped in 11.

The 1A State tournament is underway

The state playoff run and the season for the LaCenter Wildcat's is over. Toledo HS was just too much for the Wildcat's who loss 57 - 41. Turnovers pleg LaCenter all tournament long, and it did again against the Indian's giving the ball away 33 times. Katrina Chamberlain scored 11 points and had 8 rebounds, Lauren Baker and Hannah Trigg scored 9 each.

Thursday LaCenter picks up a win at state and stays alive in the consolation bracket. Katrina Chamberlain scored 13, Lauren Baker and Hannah Trigg added 12 as the Wildcat's held off a late 4th quarter run by Columbia-Burbank to win 47 - 45. After building an 11 point lead in the 3rd quarter, LaCenter almost gave it back. They now move on to play Toledo at 12:30 pm Friday. Good luck ladies.

The LaCenter Wildcat's made it to Yakima, the location for this years 1A state tourney, but drew a tough 1st round game, against #1 ranked Freeman High School. On Wednesday Freeman showed why they are rank #1 with a 66 - 30 thumping of the Wildcat's. The first quarter was competitive but Freeman exploded in the 2nd scoring 26 points and never looked back. LaCenter was lead by Lauren Baker with 14 points and Hannah Trigg scoring 9. Freeman had a balance attack lead by Megan McIntyre with 15, Korina Baker 10, Carley Heinen 10 and Alyssa Maine had 9. Next for the LaCenter is Columbia-Burbank today at 12:30pm.

Playoff results

In order for our better teams in Southwest Washington to do well in regional and state playoff games, we have to have stronger competition in the area. I strongly believe that's what happen to Prairie in game one of the district tourney, along with the question of how #1 and #2 in the state would meet in a district semi final game?, that's a scheduling "foo paw". Anyway, be that as it may, the Falcon's just didn't have enough tough battles in their resume, to be ready for the one they played against Kennedy. They lost 67 - 54 in a hard fought game. And now with a game like that under there belt, hopefully they'll be better prepared as the tourney goes along and when state starts next week. Lindsey Levanen played like the superstar she is, 21 points, 9 rebounds, Kriten Munson scored 12 points and Lauren Goecke had 10. Next is the bi-district 3rd place game then on to state.

Going 12 minutes with out scoring a bucket was to tough to overcome for the Hockinson Hawk's vs Elma in the 2A semi-final playoff game. After a 20 point 1st quarter, Hockinson could only score 4 points, all from the free throw line, in the 2nd quarter. That, along with an 11-0 out burst to start the 3rd quarter by Elma, spelled doom for the Hawk's, losing 55 - 46. Hockinson never gave up but the cushion given was to much to overcome. Lejla Mlivic lead the scoring with 16 points and Daron Dean had 12 for the Hawk's.

Ridgefield defeated Mark Morris for the 3rd time this season 54 - 47, to move on to a "winner to state game" against Hockinson this Saturday. The Spudder's were lead by Anna Pengra with 17 points and Shelby Williams with 16. For the Mark Morris Monarch's it was Kylie Farmer with 16 points and Taybra Teeters scoring 12.

R.A. Long has to call it a season after losing to River Ridge 59 - 43. A successful season it was though, placing 3rd in the GSHL 2A. Congratulations and good luck to senior Katie Gudgell who scored 16 points in her final game with the Lumberjill's.

The Greater St. Helen's League 4A has no representatives going to state. I don't like this format. Skyview's season came to an end losing at home to Newport 56 - 51. Although the Storm hung with Newport most of the night. It was the fast break full court pressure style of Newport that eventually just wore Skyview down. The Storm never got into their game, even though they held a 3 point lead going into the 4th quarter. An 11-0 run by Newport in the 4th quarter spelled dome for the Storm. Macey Mukensnabl scored 14, Nikki Bond had 11, Brooke Bowen added 11. A terrific season, including regular season and district championships ends. Keep your heads up ladies. Good job.

Kelso's trip up north, to try and make it to state playing Garfield was even a longer ride coming home. Losing 54 - 26 was one thing, but even bigger was the lost of Carly Perkins with a knee injury early in the game. The Lassie's never recovered after that. And honestly who could blame them. Carly is the most gifted athlete in our area, when you lose that big a piece of your team, it shocks the system. Good luck on your recovery Carly. A bad way to end the season for both Perkins and Kelso. But they had a successful season. Congratulations.

College coaches seek fundamental players

You never know when a college coach may show up and see you play. Be ready, play hard all the time. What are coaches looking for? Sometimes they show up to see someone else, but if you're playing hard and stand out that game, you could steal their attention. Click to read the story.

It was Mary Kate's Night

What a community, what a school, what a team, what a coach... Wow... Woodland High School's gym was packed for the J.V. game Monday night. A lot of the students, a lot of the administration, varsity team parents and boosters, the press, and just basketball fans came to show their support to Mary Kate Hughes. And she was just smiling and having fun, as if she wasn't aware of what was going on.
When I came in the gym, she stopped her warm ups and came over and gave me a hug, spoke for a minute, and went back to warming up. I had to go outside and fight my tears back. I got back in to see the start of the game though. Mary Kate was to play two quarters in the J.V. game and then be a surprise starter and play two quarters of the varsity game.
In the J.V. game she took 4 shots in the 1st quarter, the fans hanging on every shot but she miss them all. Then in the 3rd quarter she pulled up from the top of the key and hit a 3 pointer. The gym erupted. I don't even know what happen after that. All of a sudden the game was over and the varsity team was coming out to warm up.
In the varsity game warm ups, you could see Mary Kate beginning to be a little nervous. During one of the warm up drills she stumbled and fell, but laughing it off she got up and continued to get ready. Then came the pre-game ceremony, it was senior night and the team manager along with Jessica Hughes, Mary Kate's older sister were honored. Then came the poem. (read it at the bottom) A poem for Mary Kate from her teammates. That was a tough one, keeping dry eyes. Then they did the starting line up, and the announcer says "at guard, a sophomore, #11 Mary Kate Hughes" and again the gym exploded. A dream come true, starting a varsity game along side her sister Jessica.
In the first quarter the ball went straight to Mary Kate, she took the first shot, it was short. She went down on defense, one of the Washougal players took a shot, missed it, the rebound came long, Mary Kate tracked it down, lead the fast break and sent a great pass to a team mate for the first two points of the game. Not much happen after that, and shortly afterwards Mary Kate came out of the game, and didn't re-enter until the 4th quarter.
In the forth quarter, she caught the ball on the wing, drove to the hoop, throw it up, and scored. The gym erupted again. Her first varsity points. Then with her sister Jessica feeding her the ball, she hit a short jumper. 4 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assist and a night she and many won't forget.

Mary Kate leaves Wednesday for Texas and treatment for cancer. This treatment may include amputation. We will be praying for you. This was such a wonderful night. Thank you coach Flanagan. There is a fund raiser being established for the family. Mary Kate is one of 10 kids and this will be a financial stress on the family. As I always say "It takes a village to raise a child" Please reach deep and send what you can to this fund raiser. Please. Send to:

The Poem
You are so beautiful, so strong
in your face I see God's love
and in your hear I hear his song
you are a true blessing from above.

Pure of heart and great of mind
I've met no one as wondrous as you
and in your soul your faith I find
which keeps you brave and true

Cancer cannot stop you
you just keep going on
just like the rock you stand upon
nothing can move you, you are so strong

Everything happens for a reason
even what you now are going through
stay strong and wise you're an inspiration
and I say this on be half of all, WE LOVE YOU

Playoff Action
Last night was my first look at Columbia River Chieftain's and I left impressed as they defeated Camas soundly 52 - 37 in the 3A district playoff game. Junior Brittany Landon was impressive with aggressive play, scoring 15 points and quarterbacking the team. But honestly, at least for last night's game, the whole team contributed, each in key areas and at key times. Taylor Parker 4, Laura Luther 5, Sarah Bobbe 4, Aimee Bolton 5, Brittany Heuett 6, Kassilin Cloyd 8, and Allie Holterman #12 scored 5 points, Congratulations to the Chieftain's now it's on to the championship game and the Prairie Falcon's tonight. For Camas, with Melissa Williams getting into early foul trouble, the Papermaker's never seem to get into their groove. Turning the ball over numerous times and missing some fairly easy shots early. Williams ended with 11 points. Next up for Camas is a Wednesday Bi-district game, good luck.

LaCenter never got themselves together after having point guard Lauren Baker get in foul trouble early, losing in their opening round 1A district playoff game to Onalaska 58 - 41. The Wildcat's will play Saturday night in a loser out game against familiar foe Castle Rock.

GSHL 2A
Final games in league play last night, and Hockinson ends with an "undefeated season" Congratulations girls. 10 an 0. Balance scoring last night as it has been all season, did the trick. Lejla Mlivic had 15 points, Daron Dean 12 points and 8 rebounds, and Amanda McCarty scored 12 also to lead the Hawk's past Woodland 68 - 36. Although the season is over for the Beaver's they have a young team and a bright future. Good luck to the Hawk's going into the playoffs.

Washougal has had problems all season getting off to slow starts. Well last night they got off to a quick start, and it might have surprise them, as they weren't able to maintain it in the 2nd quarter only scoring 4 points. But they played hard in defeat losing to R.A. Long 53 - 43. Junior Alicia McElroy scored 25 points in defeat. With a strong returning squad, next year should be a good one for the Panther's. The Lumberjill's move on into the playoff's in 3rd place. They were lead by Katie Gudgell with 17 points and Kelsey Craft with 12. They play next Friday. Good luck.

Ridgelfield capped a successful season with a victory over Mark Morris 66 - 50. The Spudder's are back to full strength now with Anna Pengra playing her best game since her injury scoring 16 points, Lauren Landerholm had 12, and Shelby Williams added 10. For the Monarch's they were lead by Taybra Teeters and Kelee Lambert with 10 points each. Now it's off to the playoff's starting next Friday. Good luck ladies.

GSHL 3A
One of the worries about playing in the playoffs is dealing with injuries and the illness bug. Union was struck with the bug. Starter and impact player Janae Davis sat on the sideline helpless with an injured knee as Columbia River defeated the Titan's 41 - 55. River got big help from junior Kassilin Cloyd coming of the bench, she scored 9 straight second quarter points and 22 for the game, Brittany Landon scored 10 and the Chieftain's are moving on. Megan Dire scored 22 for the Titan's but it wasn't enough. Union's season is over.

GSHL 4A
Mountain View appeared a step faster last night hanging on for a 44 - 38 victory over Battle Ground. Late free throws did the trick and push the Thunder to the win. Caitlynn Patterson lead the Thunder with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Mt. View was force to play with out Evie Everett home sick. Gabi Dixson scored 11 in limited second half play for the Tiger's.

Kelso closed out Evergreen's season with a 54 - 25 rout. Carly Perkins lead all scoring with 16 points as the Lassie's step out to a 33-4 first half lead. Kelso moves on to face Mountain View at Heritage HS. Thursday.

GSHL 2A
Ridgefield continued it's qwest to be the second seed team for the 2A tournament that starts next week. Woodland's chances are now very slim after a 41 - 56 defeat. Ridgefield started out slow down 15-9 in the first but bounce back in the 2nd quarter and lead the rest of the way. Shelby Williams lead all scores with 17, Nichole Kates added 11 and Anna Pengra had 10 for the Spudder's. Taylor McCullough scored 12 points, McKenzie Heberer tallied 10 points, 7 rebounds and 6 bolcks for the Beaver's.

Monday night's results 2/16/09

GSHL 2A
The Panther's Roared in the 4th quarter last night scoring 23 points and coming from behind to defeat the Monarch's at home 44 - 41. After only scoring 2 points in the first quarter the Panther's played Mark Morris pretty much even for the next 2 quarters, down 12 going into the 4th, then "BAMM". Alicia McElroy was on fire dropping 27 points for Washougal, 17 in the 4th quarter. This was a great win for the team and it shows there headed in the right direction. Taybra Teeters lead the Monarch's with 11 points.

Hockinson on senior night handled R.A. Long pretty much the same way they've handled the league this year. Jump out early, defensive pressure, wear you down late. The Hawk's lead 27-16 at half, and won the game 48 - 30. Daron Dean lead the scoring with 14 points, and 13 rebounds. With one game left the Hawk's are closing in on an undefeated league season.

Non-league action
Both Prairie and Oregon City wanted a tune up game to prepare themselves for their state playoffs. Well they got it. Oregon City polished their well oiled fast break and ran, and ran, and ran last night defeating the Falcon's 56 - 34. Scrappy defense which is usually Prairie's calling card, was put on them last night by the great athletes of Oregon City. Honestly they are about 11 players deep, they sub player's in and never lose a step. The Falcon's down two starters, sophomore Angela Gelhar to a season-ending knee injury, and Heather Corral suffered an ankle injury on Sunday probably would have made a little difference, but Oregon City was clearly the better team. For the Falcon's to a man know they learned a lot about themselves, what they need to prepare for heading into the playoffs. Although no player reach double figure scoring for the Falcon's Lindsey Levenan was clearly the leader on the floor for Prairie. For the Pioneer's Ashley Reed scored 13, Taylor Ward added 12, and Calli Jackson had 11. We wish them good luck over in Oregon's state tournament, but I don't think they need much luck, they are talented.

Great night in girl's hoops

GSHL 4A
There is something about having been there before that prepares you when you go there again. Skyview has battled for the GSHL 4A title for the past few years, and although they've come up short, they have obviously learn how to handle themselves. Those lessons paid dividends last night. The seniors for the Storm were clutch in the victory over Heritage in the "fight for first" last night. After a tight 1st quarter when both teams were feeling their way around, senior Kailee Oliver step it up, dominating the second quarter of which Skyview won 20-9. Heritage bounce back in the 3rd quarter but senior Shelby Mason was clutch along with Oliver down the stretch to squash the T-Wolve's attempt at a comeback. Oliver ended the game with 21 points, Nikki Bond added 10 and Skyview is now the "GSHL 4A Championship" 59 - 48. Chawncy McClenan and Justine Joudrey had 11 points each for Heritage and Amber Myers tossed in 10. Here's hoping the young T-Wolve's can pick up on those same lessons as the Storm.

In what use to be the area's biggest rivalry game Mountain View vs Evergreen, the Plainsman's recent run of hard times has made this a one way game the Thunder's way. Last night was no different, 51 - 16. The Thunder were lead by seniors Caitlynn Patterson with 15 points and Evie Everett scoring 12.

Kelso traveled down to Battle Ground on a roll after defeating Skyview Monday and stayed on that roll going into the playoffs. Carly Perkins scored 22 points and dominated the game. Fellow junior Caitlynn Jackson had 17 points and when this "one / two punch" is working, watch out, the Lassie's are tough. To much for the Tiger's last night as they fell 72 - 50. Sam Codi had 17 for the Tiger's.

GSHL 3A
In the most exciting game of the evening Camas squeezed by Union 55 - 54 forcing a 3 way tie for second place and a tie breaker set for Saturday at 2pm at Fort Vancouver. The game didn't start well for Union but they fought back like champions just coming up one point short. Camas after getting off to a comfortable lead early and holding on to it through 3 quarters, got gun shy late and almost gave the game back. Melissa Williams was incredible in the first half scoring 14 of her game high 22 points, grabbing 7 of her 13 rebounds, making steals, blocking shots and by the way never coming out of the game. She had 2 key blocks in the final seconds to clinch the game for the Papermaker's. In the 4th quarter it was the senior Megan Dire and junior Janae Davis show. Fighting, scraping and literally carrying the Titan's on their back, making it close. I'm not sure, but I believe the two of them scored all the second half points for the Titan's. Dire ended with 23 and Davis with 21.

"The Victory Tour" concluded last night, Prairie stopping Columbia River 56 - 32. Michelle Bolliger scored 14, Heather Corral 12 and Christine Sonners 10 for the Falcon's who are now tuning up for their playoff run. Good luck. The Chieftain's will now play in the 3 way tie breaker with Union and Camas Saturday. River's top scorer was Kassilin Cloyd with 10 points.

Fort Vancouver vs Hudson's Bay renewed and old rivalry last night and it was an entertaining game. Kelsey Frasier scored 19 points and Ramona Vercher had 11 to lead the Eagle's past the Trapper's 45 - 42. With the departure of a talented senior class and this years best player Shamarica Scott falling to injury, after winning the league championship last season Fort didn't pick up a league victory this year. Erika Virgen-Vazquez scored 11 points to lead Fort.

GSHL 2A
Hockinson's dominance of the league continued last night as they defeated Washougal 55 - 18. Lejla Mlivic scored 15 and Daron Dean had 12. There's still one more week of league games for the GSHL 2A but the champion is already determined. Congratulations Hawk's. Alicia McElroy scored 12 for Washougal and has shown true grit all season.

R.A. Long couldn't peel Ridgefield who was back to full strength last night 52-49. The Spudder's line up was fully stuffed with Anna Pengra coming back scoring 6 points, Lauren Landerholm had 12, Shelby Williams added 12, and Nichole Kates scored 10. Katie Gudgell lead the Lumberjill's as she has all season with 14 points.

Woodland couldn't overcome hot outside shooting from Kylie Farmer of Mark Morris and lost 54 - 49. Farmer had 20 points hitting on 6 deep 3 pointers. Emily Smith had 13 points and McKenzie Heberer scored 10 points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots for the Beaver's in defeat.

Trico 1A
LaCenter won the Trico League 1A Championship with a 54 - 33 victory over Castle Rock. Hannah Trigg scored 19, Katrina Chamberlain 12 and Marissa Moore 11 for the Wildcat's.

SPRING AND SUMMER TRAVELING TEAMS

For the past 5 years now "Premier Elite" has assembled some of the best players from Southwest Washington to participate in tournaments held up and down the West Coast. From Seattle to San Diego and many spots in between the "Premier Elite" teams have competed in the tournaments and the "Premier Elite" players have received the recognition that help propel them into "playing at the next level" and college scholarships. (recent players listed below) With the high school season whining down, it's time to start thinking about what you're going to do in the off season. Try-outs are coming February 28th & March 1st. Come see if you have the skills to play with the best. We'll be making announcements as to where so 'stay on the look out'.

"SUNDAY CLINICS"

This week we are back at our regular location. Still trying not to aggravate some of these high school coaches, but the fundamental training is clearly helping many of the local players at their schools. Sunday Clinics are working. In an attempt to mirror the Spokane Stars and increase the talent level in the area Sunday Clinics have been a smashing success. We've started with over 30 girl's and will continue this Sunday. All are welcome. Girls from the 7th grade up. The cost; $10.00. Call, text or email for more information. 360-991-2566 or lanpdx2003@yahoo.com

Tuesday results; 2/10/09

The fight for 1st place in the Trico League was really a fight against mother nature, and the cold and flu season won out. Four of the normal starters for Ilwaco sat the game out with the flu. Starters Vallori Crowston, Aimee Banuet, Marin McDonnell, and Ashley Tapio did not play for Ilwaco and with out them LaCenter was just to much, winning 55 - 33. In what should have been a real exciting game, it went off with barely a puff. But "be that as it may" that's how things are. So now with one game left against second place Castle Rock, the Wildcats sit in 1st Place. Win, and they are league champions, lose and we might have a 3 way tie for first. Hannah Trigg was feeling just fine after some early season injuries she scored 20 and Marissa Moore had 16.

The Stretch run for the senior class of 2009

Wow, 4 years passes fast doesn't it. Now just a few weeks left in your high school basketball careers. I hope you've learned a lot playing sports for these past 4 years. I've always felt high school athletics teaches life lessons of value. Sportsmanship, collaboration, personal effort, and regardless of wins and loses self esteem, and pride for being a part of something larger than yourself.
I want to express to those of you 2009 seniors, for these next few weeks, give it everything you've got. Don't hold anything back. Dive for that loose ball, go for that rebound, jump at that shooter, push just a little harder, you'll never forget these times, never, so know deep inside that you gave all you had. Wins and losses don't have anything to do with your personal effort.
If you're hoping to play at the next level, keep in mind, you never know who's in the gym watching your game and you play. College coaches are out and about, and they don't always stand out in the crowd. Make sure you do. Keep in mind, they don't care what the score was in your game, they're looking at your effort.
Be realistic with your prospects. None of this year's seniors are going to UConn or Tennessee. In fact most division 1 and division 2 colleges have already sign their 2009 recruits. You're probably a little to late if you haven't been contact by these schools yet. But there are other options. In fact NAIA or Community College is a great option for many. A nice first step to bigger colleges. Pick the right school though, our local one isn't the only option.
Overall congratulations to all of you, Seniors of 2009. Job well done. Good luck in these final weeks of the basketball season and with what ever your future holds. Underclassman if you're considering playing at the next level, NOW is the time to start doing something about it.

Seniors and underclassman, start asking around, be proactive. If you don't know what to do next, ask your coach or ask me, I'll help.

GSHL 4A
Things got a little more interesting at the top, thanks to Kelso up setting Skyview last night 68 - 61. That sets up this Thursday's game between Heritage (8-1) and Skyview (8-1) as the game for 1st Place. Kelso control the game from start to finish. With Caitlynn Jackson in foul trouble for the Lassie's, senior night seem to inspire some of the seniors, Jessica Warthen had 9 points, Danielle Birch had the best game of her career with 20 points (five 3 pointers). Carly Perkins had her normal solid game 23 points and 7 rebounds, and Madeline Zbaeren added 10. Skyview seem to be struggling to get their shots to fall, they where lead by freshman sensation Nikki Bond with 23 points and Maddy Van Lieu added 10 points.

In the mean time, Heritage was handling Mountain View fairly easily 50 - 38. Playing inspired Chawncy McClenan had a huge game, 17 points, 11 rebounds, and great defense. Super sophomore Justine Joudrey tossed in 15 points and seemed in total control, Clara Russell added 8 points for the T-Wolve's. The Thunder was lead by Haley Holboke's 11 points, Evie Everett with 9 and Caitlynn Patterson scored 8.

With two games left, it looks like it could be another winless season for the Evergreen Plainsman as they got beat by Battle Ground last night, 74 - 43. Gabi Dixson dominate the inside for the Tiger's scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds, Kiley Thomas added 18 and Sam Codi with 12 points. Evergreen had no one in double figures but Amber Berry's 9, Kayley Weaver's 7, and Audrey Frazier's 6 were tops for the Plainsman.

GSHL 3A
Although the question of who'll take first in the GSHL 3A has long been decided, there's still a lot on the line. Going into Monday night's games Camas, Union and Columbia River all stood with a 5-3 record, with two games left. Camas and Columbia River both still have to face Prairie and Union and Camas will square off Thursday. So here we go. On Monday night both Union and River took care of business and Prairie did what they do to Camas.

"The Victory Tour" rolls on. They call it Prairie Pride, where losing a league game seems, well 'it's not gonna happen' not this year at least. With perhaps what may prove to be her "freshman break out game" Heather Corral scored 27 points (Ashley type numbers) in the Falcon's 82 - 45 victory over Camas. Lauren Goecke added 14, Christine Sonners & Lindsey Levanen scored 10 each. For the Papermaker's, Haley Smith and Emily Thomas scored 12 points and Amy Faulkner scored 10.

Union set them self up, to win their way into sole position of second place, with a victory over Fort Vancouver 55 - 28. After this 'up and down season' now with a victory over Camas Thursday at home, the Titan's can take home second place in the GSHL 3A. (Of course that's assuming Columbia River will lose to Prairie Thursday) Megan Dire scored 17, Janae Davis 11 and Kynnedy Mosley had 10 to lead Union.

Columbia River now has to either defeat Prairie, or cheer for Camas to beat Union Thursday to share a piece of 2nd place in the GSHL 3A. The Cheiftain's took care of their own business Monday defeating Hudson's Bay 60 - 31. Sarah Bobbe had 13 points and Brittany Heuett scored 10 to lead River.

GSHL 2A
Hockinson prove to be the best team in the 2A last night. Handing Ridgefield a solid defeat 47 - 39. Congratulations to the Hawk's "Champion's of the GSHL 2A". Daron Dean lead the way with 16 points, 15 rebounds, and probably should be the League MVP. Lejla Mlivic, Amanda McCarty, Jennifer Pickup and Michelle Haagen also deserve a mentioning here with the whole team doing a great job this season. For the Spudder's it was a tough night without the big inside you counted on this season Anna Pengra down with a back injury. Ridgelfield's Nichole Kates scored 16 points, Shelby Williams added 10 but it just wasn't enough.

O'yeah there was a game, Woodland defeated Washougal 61 - 36. Jessica Hughes (Mary Kates older sister and the only senior on the team) scored 15 points, Emily Smith had 12, McKenzie Heberer tossed in 8, and Mary Kate Hughes had 4 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assist. Alicia McElroy hit for 16 points for the Panther's in defeat.

R.A. Long defeated Mark Morris in what in Longview is called the Civil War 43 - 25. Katie Gudgell lead the way for the Lumberjill's with 17 points.

GSHL 4A
It was a tough battle last night as Heritage faced off with Kelso. The T-wolve's exploded out of the box early up by as much as 20-10, lead by an outstanding first quarter for Clara Russell who scored 11 points for the game. Foul trouble, turnovers, and good defense by the Lassie's allowed them to creep back in and make a game of it, lead by my "player of the year" so far this season Carly Perkins with 14 points and 12 rebounds for the game. The best part of the game was to see two of the best guards in the league going at it. Caitlynn Jackson of Kelso and Justine Joudrey of Heritage. "Mono ah mono" in the 4th quarter, both doing what they could to help their team win. Heritage held on 42 - 41. It was very entertaining, and good basketball. Thanks girls.

Gabi Dixson lifted Battle Ground on those broad shoulders of hers and took the Tigers' to victory over Mountain View 51 - 48. Gabi hit three clutch free throws in the final seconds which made the difference. She ended the game with 11 points. Kiley Thomas scored 16 and Aubri Squires played great for the Tigers' with 8 points, 8 assists, and 8 rebounds. Mountain View's Caitlynn Patterson had 15 points and Evie Everett added 14 in defeat.

Skyview toppled Evergreen 71 - 25. Setting up a big rematch for next week against Heritage. Nikki Bond scored 15, Brooke Bowen had 14, Maddy Van Lieu added 10, and Kailee Oliver had her solid 11 points to pace the Storm.

GSHL 3A
"The Victory Tour" reached a milestone last night sewing up the 3A league title with a win over Fort Vancouver 66 - 13. Angela Gehlar scored 16 points and Lindsey Levenan had 10 for the Falcon's who can officially turn their attention to bigger fish. The State tournament. Not to say over look the rest of league play, but honestly it appears to be somewhat of a formality.

In what I would say a mild upset, Columbia River went into Camas last night and with a great 2nd half, came out a winner 51 - 42. The victory forces a 3 way tie for 2nd place in the GSHL 3A. Allie Holterman's 15 points and Taylor Parker with 14 lead the Cheiftain's. Melissa Williams had her best game of the year with 18 points, 15 rebounds, 6 block shots, and 4 steals but it wasn't enough for the Papermaker's in defeat.

Union got big games from Janae Davis and Megan Dire to post a 57 - 47 victory over Hudson's Bay. Janae had 22 and Megan 21 for the Titan's. Bay played probably their most impressive league game of the season in defeat. The Eagle's were lead by Ramona Vercher with 17, Kelsey Frasier with 12, and Brittney Davis with 11.

GSHL 2A
Ridgefield, still without Anna Pengra, continue their winning ways, defeating Washougal 55 - 33. Paced by Shelby Williams with 21 points, Nichole Kates tossing in 17, and Lauren Landerholm with 13 the wins keep piling up for the Spudder's, leading towards the big show down next week against Hockinson.

Woodland got a measure of revenge last night sticking it to R.A. Long 65 - 47. The Lumberjill's defeated the Beaver's earlier this season. Emily Smith with 23 points and Jessica Hughes with 20 had big games and Kaitlyn Moses added 10 for the Beaver's. Mary Kate Hughes played but didn't score. (great job coach) R.A. Long's leading scorer was Katie Gudgel with 15 points.

Hockinson really took it to Mark Morris, especially in the 3rd quarter scoring 27 points, and defeated the Monarchs 65 - 33. Lejla Mlivic's 16 points lead a balance attack for the Hawk's who saw 10 players score. Morris was lead by Taybra Teeters with 12 points.

Trico 1A
BIG NEWS... 1st place Ilwaco was upset and lost to Castle Rock. With LaCenter's victory over Stevenson 64 - 39 the Wildcat's are tied at the top (7-1) with the rematch looming large. Lauren Baker had 23 and Marissa Moore 17 in the victory. Next week will be huge.

Wednesday night just one game

Hockinson loses a close one to perennial power River Ridge, 58 - 57. After a big 20 point 3rd quarter to take the lead, after being down at the half 31 - 28, the Hawk's couldn't hold on in the 4th only scoring 9 points and losing by one. Amanda McCarty had 19, Daron Dean scored 18 and Lejla Mlivic added 11 for the Hawk's in defeat.

Tuesday's results; 2/3/09

Trico 1A
LaCenter's Big Three, well maybe not the big three, but their best three did it again last night. It seems as if when Lauren Baker, Hannah Trigg, and Marissa Moore are healthy and on their games, the Wildcat's are hard to beat. Currently in second place and awaiting an opportunity to face Ilwaco for the battle for first in league, LaCenter pick up another league victory last night against White Salmon 56 - 46. Moore scoring 17, Trigg adding 16 and Baker scored 15 for the Wildcat's. Staying focus through the final stretch of games until the rematch is the key for LaCenter.

GSHL 4A
The Heritage T-wolve's continue their roll down the home stretch and a possible match up with Skyview for the league championship in the GSHL 4A. Amber Meyers and T.T. Martin carried Heritage to an easy victory of Evergreen 51 - 27. Martin had 13 points and several nice assist, Meyers added 11 points and some big rebounds. Things continue to just not fit right for the Plainsman, who haven't won a game in 2 years.

Skyview stayed undefeated and continue to hold on to first place in the GSHL 4A with a victory over Battle Ground 66 - 29. This Storm seems to be building momentum at the right time. Nine players contributed last night lead by Brooke Bowen with 18 points, Kailee Oliver and Katie Swanson scored 10 each. This game was over early as the Tiger's saw Skyview jump out to an early 26-6 lead in the first quarter and never look back.

Kelso junior Carly Perkins is showing why she's the leading candidate for all everything in SW Washington, last night leading the Lassie's to a 51 - 44 win over Mountain View. At 6-1 Carly's strong, athletic, skilled and hungry. She had 21 points last night, 13 rebounds, 5 block shots and just dominated the game. Caitlynn Jackson scored 10 points for Kelso and when these two juniors are clicking, Kelso is hard to beat. Evie Everett scored 11 for the Thunder in defeat.

GSHL 3A
Surprise, surprise. Columbia River upset Union at home last night, 69 - 43. The River ran 'red' as the Chieftain's were hot, shooting 22 of 48. Aimee Bolton had 17 points, Laura Luther scored 16, and Allie Holterman added 13. The Titan's were lead by Janae Davis with 16 points. Union and Columbia River are now tied for 3rd place in the GSHL 3A.

Hannah Jones step up to lead Camas over Fort Vancouver, 72 - 44. Jones had 10 points for her career high. The Papermaker's had 10 players score as they put a firm grip on 2nd place in the 3A. The Trapper's were lead by Erika Virgen-Vazquez with 15 points.

"The Victory Tour" played at Hudson's Bay last night, and again didn't let anyone down. Prairie is just rolling alone. The Falcon's defeated the Eagle's 67 - 25. It has to be tough for coach Aldrige to keep coming up with motivational stuff to keep his players focus. But he keeps pulling rabbits out of his hat. Kristen Munson and Alexis Prestwich played the staring role tonight with 11 points each. Kelsey Frasier had 12 for Bay.

GSHL 2A
Hockinson continued it's winning ways last night defeating R.A. Long 46 - 30. It was virtually a two man show, Amanda McCarty and Daron Dean doing most of the damage. McCarty had 18 points and Dean 16 to lead the Hawk's. Katie Gudgell lead the Lumberjill's with 16 points in defeat.
