Playoff results

In order for our better teams in Southwest Washington to do well in regional and state playoff games, we have to have stronger competition in the area. I strongly believe that's what happen to Prairie in game one of the district tourney, along with the question of how #1 and #2 in the state would meet in a district semi final game?, that's a scheduling "foo paw". Anyway, be that as it may, the Falcon's just didn't have enough tough battles in their resume, to be ready for the one they played against Kennedy. They lost 67 - 54 in a hard fought game. And now with a game like that under there belt, hopefully they'll be better prepared as the tourney goes along and when state starts next week. Lindsey Levanen played like the superstar she is, 21 points, 9 rebounds, Kriten Munson scored 12 points and Lauren Goecke had 10. Next is the bi-district 3rd place game then on to state.

Going 12 minutes with out scoring a bucket was to tough to overcome for the Hockinson Hawk's vs Elma in the 2A semi-final playoff game. After a 20 point 1st quarter, Hockinson could only score 4 points, all from the free throw line, in the 2nd quarter. That, along with an 11-0 out burst to start the 3rd quarter by Elma, spelled doom for the Hawk's, losing 55 - 46. Hockinson never gave up but the cushion given was to much to overcome. Lejla Mlivic lead the scoring with 16 points and Daron Dean had 12 for the Hawk's.

Ridgefield defeated Mark Morris for the 3rd time this season 54 - 47, to move on to a "winner to state game" against Hockinson this Saturday. The Spudder's were lead by Anna Pengra with 17 points and Shelby Williams with 16. For the Mark Morris Monarch's it was Kylie Farmer with 16 points and Taybra Teeters scoring 12.

R.A. Long has to call it a season after losing to River Ridge 59 - 43. A successful season it was though, placing 3rd in the GSHL 2A. Congratulations and good luck to senior Katie Gudgell who scored 16 points in her final game with the Lumberjill's.

The Greater St. Helen's League 4A has no representatives going to state. I don't like this format. Skyview's season came to an end losing at home to Newport 56 - 51. Although the Storm hung with Newport most of the night. It was the fast break full court pressure style of Newport that eventually just wore Skyview down. The Storm never got into their game, even though they held a 3 point lead going into the 4th quarter. An 11-0 run by Newport in the 4th quarter spelled dome for the Storm. Macey Mukensnabl scored 14, Nikki Bond had 11, Brooke Bowen added 11. A terrific season, including regular season and district championships ends. Keep your heads up ladies. Good job.

Kelso's trip up north, to try and make it to state playing Garfield was even a longer ride coming home. Losing 54 - 26 was one thing, but even bigger was the lost of Carly Perkins with a knee injury early in the game. The Lassie's never recovered after that. And honestly who could blame them. Carly is the most gifted athlete in our area, when you lose that big a piece of your team, it shocks the system. Good luck on your recovery Carly. A bad way to end the season for both Perkins and Kelso. But they had a successful season. Congratulations.

For the correction - The Skyview vs Kelso game is at Heritage and at 6pm - not 8pm!
