Wednesday results; 1/7/09

Only one game involving local girl's teams was played Wednesday, and from when I walked in to the gym you could feel tension. You see neither team had scratch a victory in the win column this year, and both wanted it really bad. They both felt they could get it, last night. Washougal's Mary Kartovil ran over to say hello, (she was finally able to play in her first game of the season) and she was very excited. My cell phone received a text messages from Evergreen's Breonah Scruggs (saying "I see you") she and her teammates where focused and ready to play. Both coaches Charlie Boyce ,Washougal, and Kathy Walker, Evergreen took time out of their pre-games to say hello. I couldn't help but notice them both trying to relax, but both really excited about the possibilities of the night.
As you know, I go to a lot of games through out the year. This game was as exciting a game I've been to so far this year. You would have thought it was between two undefeated teams battling for playoff position. A tough, hard fought, back and forth contest. Congratulations to both teams but only one could win. The home team Panther's lead by Alicia McElroy's 18 points, beat the Plainsmen 44 - 36. With the score 35-34 with 1:18 left, free throws and turnovers made the difference in that last minute or so. Thank you, to both teams for an entertaining and great game. Viewers be sure to get out and support our local girls teams. Not just your kids game, but go to see another sometime. You'll enjoy it.
I rarely do this, but because there was only one game, here is the box scores as provided by the Columbian newspaper.
